World Brain Day: Early Detection and Healthy Lifestyle Can Prevent Many Neurological Disorders, Say Yatharth Hospital Experts

Noida/Greater Noida: On the occasion of World Brain Day, neurologists from Yatharth Super Speciality Hospital urged people to prioritize brain health, recognise early warning signs of neurological disorders, and adopt healthier lifestyles to reduce the growing burden of brain diseases.

According to Dr. Saumya H. Mittal, Senior Consultant – Neurology, Yatharth Super Speciality Hospital, Omega-1, Greater Noida, neurological disorders such as stroke, migraine, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, dementia, neuropathies and spine-related neurological conditions are becoming increasingly common across all age groups. She noted that the hospital’s Neurology and Neurosciences department treats a large number of patients every month, with a noticeable rise in younger adults presenting with stroke and other neurological symptoms. Lifestyle-related risk factors, including hypertension, diabetes, obesity, smoking, stress and physical inactivity, are contributing significantly to this trend.

Dr. Mittal emphasised that recognising symptoms early can save lives. Sudden weakness or numbness on one side of the body, facial drooping, speech difficulty, vision loss, severe dizziness, loss of balance or an intense headache should be treated as medical emergencies, especially in suspected stroke cases where every minute is critical. Persistent memory loss, confusion, behavioural changes and difficulty performing routine tasks may indicate dementia and require prompt neurological evaluation.

Dr. Satyan Nanda, Senior Consultant & Head – Neurology, Yatharth Super Speciality Hospital, Noida-110, said the hospital’s Neurology OPD receives nearly 300–320 patients every month, with stroke, migraine, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, dementia and peripheral neuropathy among the most common conditions treated. He added that increasing cases of stroke in younger adults, chronic headaches and age-related memory disorders underline the need for greater public awareness and timely medical consultation.

Both experts stressed that maintaining brain health requires regular exercise, a balanced diet, adequate sleep, stress management, and effective control of blood pressure, diabetes and cholesterol. Activities such as reading, learning new skills, yoga, meditation and staying socially engaged also help preserve cognitive function.

On World Brain Day, the specialists appealed to the public not to ignore neurological symptoms. Early diagnosis and timely treatment can prevent disability, improve recovery and enable individuals to lead healthier, more independent lives.
