Subhash Ghai Launches SGM Animation & Gaming Studio on Mukta Arts’ 47th Anniversary

New venture marks a bold leap into the future of Indian animation and interactive storytelling

Mumbai, October 25, 2025 — A powerful new chapter in Indian cinema and entertainment unfolded today as Mukta Arts celebrated its 47th anniversary of cinematic excellence and the 20th year of its educational arm, Whistling Woods International (WWI). Marking this landmark occasion, Subhash Ghai, Chairman of Mukta Arts and WWI, proudly announced the launch of a major new creative venture in Mumbai — SGM Animation and Gaming Studio.

A New Era of Storytelling

The newly established SGM Animation and Gaming Studio aims to pioneer the future of digital entertainment in India with a focus on creating immersive animation and gaming narratives. The initiative is the result of a year-long strategic effort by Ghai and his team, designed to leverage Mukta Arts’ vast creative legacy—including 44 blockbuster films and over 500 short films—as a foundation for generating fresh intellectual properties (IPs) for the animation and gaming sectors.

Subhash Ghai on His Creative Journey

Reflecting on his cinematic journey, Subhash Ghai said:

“I started telling stories on the big screen in 1975 with Kalicharan, and then with musical motion pictures like Karz in 1978. Since then, our films have become blockbusters. In 2000, we launched our audio-video studio with Taal, and later, we established Whistling Woods International to groom over 3,000 students across filmmaking disciplines.”

He added:

“Now, I see a great future for Indian storytelling in animation and gaming. We’ve done our research and are setting up SGM Animation and Gaming Studio for both small and big screens, bringing new stories from the Mukta archive. My heartfelt thanks to Rahul Puri and Chaitanya Chichlikara for supporting this venture with a global vision.”

Bridging Legacy and Technology

SGM Animation Studio stands out for its ability to blend traditional artistry with cutting-edge digital technology. A major asset to the studio is its robust talent base—more than 300 animation graduates, many of them WWI alumni, who are already active in the industry.

Redefining Indian Animation

With the launch of SGM Animation and Gaming Studio, Mukta Arts is not merely expanding its creative footprint—it is setting a new benchmark for animated and gaming content creation in India. The venture underscores the company’s commitment to innovation, education, and global excellence, promising to reshape the country’s animation landscape and introduce a new era of storytelling for audiences worldwide.
